The WA branch of the College is comprised of approximately 30 members from a wide range of areas within the medical science and engineering disciplines Fields represented include medical physics (including radiotherapy, diagnostic physics, and radiation protection), scientific computing, rehabilitation engineering, custom orthopedic implants and biomedical engineering.

The aims and objectives of the branch are similar to those of the national body, with a special focus on issues relevent to the state.

The branch offers two annual awards; the Robert Stanford Award and the John Black Award. In addition, the branch frequently offers a travel grant designed to pay for the recipient's travel to the national conference.

There are about ten members who serve on the branch committee. The committee usually meets once a month at either Royal Perth Hospital or Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.

Branch Awards and Prizes

The John Black Prize

The John Black Prize is normally awarded to the best student presentation at the branch Scientific Meeting although in years when the branch hosts the Australasian conference the John Black Prize is awarded to the best student presentation at that meeting. This prize is named in honour of one of the College's founding members, Dr John Black. It is currently valued at $100 plus payment for associate membership of the ACPSEM for one year.

The Robert Stanford Award

The Robert Stanford Award is an annual prize presented to a WA College member based on a body of work completed within 12 months of the closing date. It is named after Mr Robert Stanford, who was the inaugural Head of Department of the first medical physics department in Western Australia. Entry is unrestricted, although preference is given to younger members in deciding the winner, and it is valued at $300 cash plus a framed certificate. The terms and conditions of the Robert Stanford Award are available. The prize is generously sponsored by Nucletron.

Travel Grant

The branch frequently offers a travel award designed to pay for the recipient's travel to the national conference. It is awarded to the best eligible presentation at the branch's annual scientific meeting.
