A compulsory component of a physicist's education and training to become a qualified medical physicist specialist accredited in a specialist area is formal hospital clinical training. The provision of this training component is best provided by the clinical departments. The ACPSEM accredits clinical departments to ensure their suitability in preparing physicists with necessary depth and breath of knowledge required to adequately train the physicist. Where an entire program is not available in a facility, partial accreditation may be granted provided the institution has a satisfactory method by which the required in-service clinical training can be acheived at another accredited facility.
